Hello Joe

When creating solutions I use a text editor (Word, BBEdit etc.), OmniGraffle and OmniOutliner.

OmniGraffle has a neat feature that allows one to create goto buttons from objects

OmniOutliner has a neat feature that allows text external documents to be linked to the outlines

Usually I start with a list of things needed in the solution or things left to do.

I then create an outline in OmniGraffle on how all the files "connect"

I then start creating outlines for each item in my "ToDo" list breaking the items down into smaller segments
I use the text editor when I need to jot down memos on how I imagine a certain process to run

I then start creating a flowchart in order to see what subroutines I need to create and where they connect to the master routines.

Once I have everything "working" on paper I start creating empty scripts in my solution in accordance to the flowchart.

I then start commenting each step (Not necessarily each script step) in the scripts in accordance to the flowchart and my notes

Once that is finished I start adding actual script code.

In the flowcharts I use different colours for local script steps and calls to subroutines.

Sometimes I use a numbering scheme in order to remind me how things connect.

When completely stuck I start working on an user outline on how to use the solution
In there I explain in detail to an imaginary user what my solution does and how to get there.

If I get stressed out I use the list above to remind me what I'm doing. :-)

If you have questions let me know.

Hans

Hey Guys,

I've been a Filemaker Developer for many years now and I've designed and
completed some sizeable projects (100- 125 related files or 50 users). I
currently modifying one module in a solution that will move my clients into
a type of inventory tracking system...

After over a month of working on this project, I'm mentally and emotionally
stagnant... I need some helpful tools or ideas to help me break this
plateau. Can anyone suggest methods or software apps (like flowcharting
tools) that you use for managing large and progressively complex FileMaker
projects?

I'm working in FileMaker 7... I just want to chart or draw out this damn
thing in such a way that I feel I can estimate the hours and completion
date... It's killing me!!!

Thanks

Joe
