I found this today, on the ZipIt website, during this discussion:

"A zip archive is any file that ends with the extension '.zip'"

Is that the most ridiculous (i.e., "worthy of ridicule") statement that
you've read lately?

Imagine, any file with a ".zip" extension is a zipped archive.  Why, we
don't even need a Zip program.  We just have to change the extension!  Yeah,
us.

The "3-char-extension" was a HUGE step backward for Apple, IMO.  I get files
all the time with an extension (usually added by Windoze XP, silently,
invisibly) that are NOT the type of file the extension indicates.

That just causes wasted time and corrupted files.  With a resource fork, the
file knows what it is.
