<x-tad-smaller>
Upper (Left ( text field; 1 ) ) & Right ( text field ; Length ( text field ) - 1 )</x-tad-smaller>
Uncheck "Do not replace existing value of field (if any)"
This should capitalize the first character when entered.
If the data is already entered then run a "Replace Field Contents" from the "Records" menu using "Replace with calculated result" and Specify… the calculation above.

I am using FMP-Pro 7.
I have VB, Oracle and Progress background in programming that was
7 years ago. This is my first project on FMPro. I am accepting a
Name (Text field) on the form and I would like it to be stored in
the database with first character in uppercase. I am aware of the
Text functions to extract the first character and then use UPPER to
convert it to Upper case, and then concatenate with the rest of the
characters in the name field. How am I going to trigger this script
as there is no way of triggering a script after exiting a field? I
don't want to use Buttons to run a script.
Thanks for your help in advance.

upper case. You will nee an event trigger plug-in to start the
script. Look at EventScript at http://www.softs4humans.com. It is
donnationware.
If these names are being entered by a human you could simply validate the entry
and ask them to change the initial letter to uppercase if the validation fails.
