Because it's different, that's why. You answer your own question: That's actually being performed by an invisible Unix executable. Not the Finder. The Finder is not a Stuffer or a Zipper or an encrypter or an IRC client. It may handle requests for such services, hand them off visibly or invisibly or whatever else you wish to call it.
