Hi Peter

My question is, then, what exactly does MDM do? I see that it reads in all data, layout info, scripts and so on, and reports errors to me like invalid references in scripts and what not. Is this a tool to just find errors, or will it output a "clean" copy of my database for me, if I buy the correct version. Or just a way to find errors that might cause problems with I move to FM8.5?
MDM provides an analysis of your files, like other tools but also contains the so-called File Reference Fixer, which is a tool by which you can "compact" the file references present in your FM6 files I've just gone thru this for a large conversion, and each FM6 file had often 4-5 file reference for each related file The File Reference Fixer fixs this, and you end up (in most cases) with 1 file reference per related file; it would take an awful lot of time to do it by hand after the conversion

MDM is a bit pricey but the File Reference Fixer is worth the price
