Our policy is similar: Remove your smart card when you walk away (locks workstation) Restart at the end of the day so that patches and virus scans can be run (restart clears the pagefile and restores lost memory due to memory leaks) Leave computers on during the weekend for other maintenance tasks such as defrag and installation of new software

Logoff at end of work day to allow patches and virus scans. Shutdown for the weekend. But I like the restart idea, for obvious reasons. Modern PCs use more power and can handle startup and shutdown better than they used but having pcs shutdown at night would prevent the ability to run updates when users don't need them. It's been my policy to have users Lock computers when leaving for lunch Restart when leaving for the for the day Shutdown for the weekend. I'm curious what others are doing.
