ایک دفعہ امیر المومنین حضرت عمر فاروق رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس ایک بدو (عرب دیہاتی) آیا اور چند اشعار پڑھے کہ جن میں کہا گیا تھا: ”اے عمر ! بھلائی تو بس جنت کی بھلائی ہے۔ میری بیٹیوں اور ان کی ماں کو کپڑے پہنا۔ خدا کی قسم تمہیں ضرور ایسا کرنا ہوگا“۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا : ”اگر میں تمہارا کہا نہ مانوںتو کیا ہوگا“۔ بدو نے جواب دیا: ”قیامت کے دن تجھ سے میرے بارے میں سوال کیا جائے گا اور تو ہکا بکا رہ جائے گا ۔ پھر دوزخ کی طرف جانا ہوگا یا جہنم کی طرف “۔ حضرت عمررضی اللہ عنہ یہ سن کر اس قدر روئے کہ داڑھی مبارک آنسو سے بھیگ گئی۔ اس وقت بیت المال خالی تھا اور حضرت عمر رضی اللہ عنہ بھی خالی ہاتھ تھے۔ اپنے خادم سے روتے ہوئے فرمایا: ”میرا یہ کرتا اس کو دے دو، اس وقت اس کے سوا میرے پاس کچھ نہیں ہے“۔
