The next semi-regular monthly meeting of Helpnet will be this Thursday,
12:00 - 1:00 pm at the Peace and Justice Center, 170 Park St.,
Bangor. I've got 2 items I'm interested in talking about:
(1) Basic computer and networks security. I did a session about
this for Bairnet more than a year ago, and I hope to update the
information. The handout I did for the Bairnet session is on the Web at

(2) Public and private information and personal privacy. Post-
Sept.11 there is increasing interest in security. What happens when public
or private agencies start combining all the records about us - banking,
credit card, employment, health, etc., and pairing them with new tools like
face recognition software? Who will control this information? What is an
appropriate response to these new technologies?
As always, it will be up to those attending to decide whether we will stick
to these topics, or add or substitute new ones that the group is interested in.
