HelpNet will be offering a new, multi-session workshop, with the working
title of "Oh My God -- How Do We Keep This Stuff Running? The workshop is
aimed at people responsible for first-line maintenance for the type of
computer set-ups most HelpNet members have :
-computers running some flavor of Windows, either stand-alone or
set up in a peer-to-peer network
-standard productivity and Internet software
-broadband or dial-up Internet connections.
Participants who master the workshop content will (hopefully) be able to
greatly reduce their organizations' dependence on outside tech support. The
workshop is projected to extend over 6 sessions of 1 1/2-2 hours, and will
cover such subjects as:
-backups
-security - viruses, hoaxes, firewalls, passwords, etc.
-routine maintenance and updates
-Peer-to-peer networking basics
-Internet connections
-troubleshooting basics
Workshop tuition is $90 for participants from HelpNet organizational
members, $40 for individuals. The first workshop session will be held
Wednesday, February 6, from 2:00 - 4:00pm, at the Families and Children
Together (FACT) offices, 304 Hancock St., Bangor. The tentative schedule
after that (depending on the needs of participants) is to meet weekly at
the same time and place through Wednesday., March 13.
