My suggestion would be to buy a computer either from someone nearby (there 
are a number of local computer stores that will build you a computer for 
$1000 or less and would be here if you had a problem) or from a proven 
company like Dell (which is now offering new machines for considerably less 
than $1000, and refurbished ones with a new warranty for even less). If you 
have a problem, neither of them is a relative, and neither is in Wisconsin.

As for putting in more memory or a Zip now, don't do it unless you expect to 
be using the machine for some time. By the time you've done that, you will 
have paid for 25-50% of a new machine, and you will not have anything like a 
new machine on your desk.
