Friends I have an opportunity to acquire new computer equipment and would like advice on which hardware and software might best fill my needs, as described below. I'm more used to PCs than Macs, though I have been using a radio station's I-MAC for digital audio editing for the last several months, and find it quite user-friendly.
1. A laptop and computer 'slide projector' for image- and video-rich presentations. The quietest projector possible, as the white noise thrum of many projectors' cooling fans are the bane of audio-recording talks where such projectors are in use. 2. A desktop computer with: * Video and still image editing capabilities. (I have 100's of hours of video and audio footage that need to be digitized and edited.) This also includes the ability to translate digital GIS data into three dimensional bathymetric imagery, such as that visible on the following webpage http://www.penbay.org/penbaypic2.html * Word processing capabilities that can use both Word and WordPerfect, and carry out desktop publishing capabilities * CD and DVD burning capabilities. Both computers would need to have rather large-ish memories. Thanks if anyone is able to make some recommendations!
