Many web/mail hosting services (like Rainstorm) provide the option of setting up a vacation message on the mail server, so that your own computer doesn't need to do anything. FACT's mail accounts are divided between Hostway and Midmaine. I don't see any obvious way to do what you want on the Midmaine accounts, but it's worth a call to their tech support to find out. On the Hostway accounts, you should log into the Sitecontrol Web interface for the domain the E-mail account belongs to, then select "E-mail" in the left-hand column to display a list of all the E-mail accounts. Click on "change" for the account you want to set up a vacation message, then select "Autoresponder" - this will let you create the vacation message.
There's probably a way for each person to do this on their own, without needing the Sitecontrol password, but I didn't get that far.
Whoever is creating a vacation message should unsubscribe, or temporarily stop message delivery of any listservs they are on. Otherwise they will send an "I'm on vacation message" to the list in reply to every list posting. Most listserv software is supposed to be smart enough to filter these out, but I seem to get them frequently in spite of this.
