I also use Outlook Express, and a dial-up ISP. What I did when I took a longer vacation (longer than a week) was to set up a "message rule" (it's under "tools") to reply to all messages with the message "I'm on vacation. Back August 10" or whatever. Then I just had our secretary log on each day and get my mail and then hit "send and receive" one more time to send out the replies which had been automatically generated - that's the part that you have to have an ISP provide if you want it to be totally automatic. Our ISP doesn't have that service so I had to have the secretary do it (anyone who has access to your computer can do it for you). I can't remember what I did about email lists I subscribe to (obviously you don't want to post fifty messages saying you are on vacation). MS Outlook has an "except" part of the rules that you can set up, but I'm not seeing one in Outlook Express in the version I have currently.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [folkschool-list] E-mail answer

Hi all,

We have Outlook Express and I am looking for a way to have a reply automatically sent to folks when they e-mail someone who is on vacation.  Any ideas?  Thanks for your help.
