Hi,

I'm more or less a newbie in Linux land so please don't assume too much
knowledge of the ins and outs of Linux. I recently downloaded the RedHat 7.1
ISO's from their website, installed them on my machine and started the
updates. From reading information on various sites I got the impression that
I needed XFree 4.1.0 to get rid of nasty quirks in the software when using
my mouse and keyboard (Logitech Cordless Pro and Cordless Wheelman), so I
finally upgraded to XFree 4.1.0 and answered the default to the many
questions I didn't understand.
Now I have a system with a more or less correctly working KDE in which I can
choose from various fonts for the various screen parts. I even managed to
copy Arial, Tahoma and Verdana fonts from my Windows 98SE directory to my
Linux partition and use them within KDE, but now whenever I try to run a
Gnome application or switch to Gnome as window manager I get dotted
rectangles where there should be text so e.g. it's impossible to configure a
printer.

Who can tell me what to do to get Gnome produce readable text or what I
should do to "undo" the upgrade to XFree86 4.1.0.

Please email (as well), since I'm not sure I will be able to find this
mailing list again.

Bye,

Helma van der Linden
