You may have mentioned this before, but did you try any Western CID fonts? > Adobe-Japan1/HiraKakuPro-W3--UniJIS-UCS2-H.cid -DaiNippon >Screen-HiraKakuPro-W3-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso10646-1 I think I would first try to get the jisx0208 fonts to work before trying the 10646 ones. 10646 is relatively new in the X world. > Adobe-Japan1/HiraKakuPro-W3--EUC-H.cid -DaiNippon >Screen-HiraKakuPro-W3-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-jisx0208.1990-0 EUC has the 8th bit on both bytes set to one, but jisx0208.1990-0 doesn't. Isn't there any other CIDfont that you could use? > I > first tried seeing if the fonts were at least recognized by X using > xfontsel. Have you tried xfd on the jis fonts? Click "Next Page" until it says "upper left: 0x3000", and you should see the first group of Kanjis.
