You may want to change default X resolution to better value.

Measure width of your screen (vieable area), convert 'cm' to inches, than 
divide number of dots (screen width in pixels) by width of screen in inches.
You will get correct dpi (dots per inch) for horizontal resolution.
Repeat the same for vertical - and you will get vertical value.

Than hard-code values into X startup parameters ( #x -- -dpi 120, IIRC)
