You can stop before the conversion to inches; measure the width and
the height in millimetres, and add a line
DisplaySize WWW HHH
where WWW is the width in mm and HHH the height, to the "Monitor"
section of your XF86Config file. XFree86(v4 and up) will work out the
DPI from there, and as a plus, the accurate screen size will be
available to applications.
