Considering how FOP uses batik and what has been recently developed in batik, the animations and scripting. I think this should be very stable for its use within FOP. The main issue is about the api and this is an improvement from the previous situation anyway. Alternatively we could wait an indefinite amount of time where the situation may still be the same.
