Makes a lot of sense. Maybe Pascal's remark should also be taken into account. If previously the transformation continued, and now FOP exits, this change should at least be documented, or we should restore the behavior of previous versions, IMO.

OTOH, users who will only run ‘fop -v’ to know what version is installed
on their system will be puzzled by the whole help message that will
appear on the output.

What I propose: keep -v but change its meaning into verbose (that for
the moment would not do much more compared to the normal mode than
displaying the version number); and add a -version option that would
only display the version number then exit.

Would everyone be happy with that?
