Ok, it's clear to me now, but I can't reproduce the problem you describe. In my test the image gets nicely centered (vertically and horizontally) inside the block-container. Why don't you send me your FO and the referenced PDF file to my e-mail address directly and I'll try to run exactly what you have. Maybe we can figure this out then.
