Thank you Gregory for a very prompt reply,

I tried to run the command as you suggested. The result is just a
little bit faster run, maybe about 5-6 seconds. I added also
"-verbose" argument to see if fop hangs in some operation for a while,
but fop seemed to do something all the time. ;) This leads me to to
think if the CPU speed could be a solution to make it run faster as
5-6 seconds is still too long in our purposes.
