Support is better now than when that was written. Pretty much everything that works in PDF works in PostScript now with some minor limitations.

When that was written SVG gradients were not supported in PostScript. That has changed and the most common gradients are supported now. Transparency is problematic in general but even then the output now is pretty close to the PDF output.
