I'll try to keep this brief:

As a admirer and supporter of bleeding edge and innovative
technologies, the idea of creating something like boots is something
that I can appreciate and look forward to. For the longest time I
wanted Foresight to be a modular, easy to consume platform that other
people could piggy back on to build a derivative. I wanted a "slim"
version; a "server" version; etc. I have bugged Antonio about this in
the not so distant past and was told that, once he was done rebuilding
the foundations of what will become Foresight 3.0, I could then have
my cake and eat it too!

I feel that having a repository of "spare parts" that we, Foresight,
can rely on when we are either shorthanded and cannot build something
on our own (due to bugs, build issues, etc) or shorthanded (did I just
repeat myself here?), is a *great thing to have*!

Having said that, I don't think that I will be running boots or any
other platform of its kind and will stick to Foresight 3.0 (gotta have
my cake!) only because I don't want to run a system that is based on
pre-built packages that have been slurped into a "spare parts"
repository, even if it is managed by Conary! Yes, I know we currently
have packages built from RPMs inbred in Foresight (Xorg stack
anyone?), but I will work my charms on Antonio when the time is right
;) This is my opinion, off course and I don't feel like defending it,
so don't bother asking me to expand on it. :)

My main concern as a member of the council and user of Foresight is
the impact that this parallel project will have in the already
diminished force task that we have at hand. Sure, things like
mirrorball will make the "slurping" process much easy; sure things can
then be automated by scripts and what not to make sure the sausage
factory keeps running at full speed... but if we have all of these
people who are so eager and motivated to roll up their sleeves and
start this new and exciting project, then why not funnel all of this
energy into Foresight itself now?

I mean, and correct me if I'm mistaken here Antonio, aren't we getting
really close to "getting rid" of our paternal links to rPL2? Aren't we
getting closer to having something that is unique and mostly built
from source? Wasn't the objective of this several months long lobotomy
that Antonio has been going through a "good thing" that would allow us
to automate things and what not?

Basically I would prefer to see all of this energy getting focused on
getting Foresight 2.1.2 out and pave the way for the 3.0 version, and
if people have come across some newly found free time, why not spend
it in these last miles that we have to go?

Sincerely,
