Instead of doing this, it might be wise to just have those who want to help subscribe to RSS. You can setup a live bookmark and just check it when you open your browser. Having an entirely separate mailing list is like having the department of redundancy department...it doesn't make sense and duplicates and adds more overhead to managing yet another list.
