Even if Fedora moves to python 3, conary will probably stay on python 2 for the foreseeable future, by shipping with its own version of python. Our last assessment was that python 3 will break all existing recipes (string formatting done differently, octal format no longer prefixed with 0). While this approach worked ok for us for other distributions, PackageKit integration may be a problem. I just don't know how big of a problem python 3 is.

Mkj has always said rPath won't port soon conary to python 3. But misa has already modified conary to make it compatible with python 2.7 so i can run it on Fedora 14. Fedora 14 will be soon outdated by Fedora 15 which brings GNOME 3 and systemd init by default so i suppose Foresight Boots will have to use soon Fedora 15 RPMS instead of Fedora 14 RPMS to avoid being too much outdated in case it's released. Fedora won't keep very long python 2 by default, so i'm interested too in seeing conary ported to Python 3 and i can help it will be with great pleasure. It can a 3-tier : Foresight 3 using Python 3 and GNOME 3 :p Thank you Martin for your foreseeing ideas ! _______________________________________________ Foresight-devel mailing list Foresight-devel@lists.rpath.org http://lists.rpath.org/mailman/listinfo/foresight-devel _______________________________________________ Foresight-devel mailing list Foresight-devel@lists.rpath.org http://lists.rpath.org/mailman/listinfo/foresight-devel
