Carbonize - thanks for the tips. This does start to lead into another discussion area. It seems like as we install more software our PCs "crud up" and become slower, eventually we may be forced to buy new PCs and start the process over.
When we know that everything that an application runs can be contained in a directory that does not have to be "installed", we have more control over what we run at anyone time. Many applications seem to insist on having components that run automatically whether we use then or not. I'll definitely look at the utilities that you mentioned. I while back, I purchased a utility called WinTasks which has helped some. I think I heard that the Windows Vista takes a GB of memory to run with 2 GB optimal. My mom reminds me frequently that her PC used to run just fine with the operating system on a 360 KB floppy and maybe a separate floppy for one or more applications and it booted up faster. This included modem communications, spreadsheet, word processing, database. Sometimes I wonder what we really have accomplished. .... its been over a quarter of a century since someone has been to the moon. -- <http://forum.pspad.com/read.php?2,35039,35122> PSPad freeware editor http://www.pspad.com
