First of all, I do not know if this is a PSPad issue or a Wine issue. My system is Xubuntu 7.04. That is, Linux which uses UTF-8 internally. I run PSPad using Wine, just because there is no other editor anywhere near as good as PSPad for Linux. My PSPad version is still 2259.
I have one small but annoying problem. If I want to search for text, the wrong encoding is used. Let me give an example: I highlight a word and press [ctrl]+[shift]+[Down]. This works like expected: the next occurrence of that word is found. After that, I select Search->Find from the menu, and only the first character of the above highlighted word is shown in the search window. If I use the find function directly (without doing the "next occurrence search" first), I can type a string, but it will not be found, because I get a message saying "<first character>?????? not found". My guess is that the UTF-8 encoded string is seen as two-byte-windows-encoded. Similar things happen in the "Search in Files" window. I can enter a path or a file mask, but it is remembered and used in the wrong encoding. Is this a PSPad thing or a Wine thing? If it is a Wine thing, I'll report it to the Wine community.
