Thank you for your reply. Just on point 2 - any other file (eg, a network file) could fail to save and then you would have the situation of an unsaved file too.
If a file is unsaved, a user can always save it locally if they wish - and this is more likely to be helpful as instead of it being in a temp directory, they can save it somewhere they might remember.
