Thanks for the reply vbr, vbr: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Which function of PSPad caused this error? It looks like an error with the codepage used for saving and/or opening the file. Make sure to save a newly created text with an appropriate encoding and to open it with the same one later. (the text you mention might have been opened with a wrong encoding, probably repeatedly(?), but it's hard to guess). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've tried playing with the encoding settings (for a newly created txt) but to no avail, none of what I try seems to make any difference. Always the same characters are displayed, and always the same changes occur. The function is in the Edit menu>special conversions>remove diacritics (or the like, I use the French version -- I also have French Windows, if that matters). vbr: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- if the original text was saved as iso-8859-1, opened later as iso-8859-2, it shows: ΔΉ
