How strange, my default CP for files opening is set to "ANSI (Windows)".
This is what I do in more detail: (Tested in PSPad 4.5.8 (2500), Windows Vista Home Premium) _1. Enable BOM mark_ _2. Configure default CP:_ 3. Open in the HEX editor a file containing nothing but the character "a", and make sure it doesn't have the BOM mark _4. Close the HEX editor and select UTF-8 in the Format menu_ _5. Open the file in the normal text editor. It is detected as UTF-8_ 6. Without doing any modifications to the file, hit Ctrl+S and close it immediately _7. Open the file again in HEX editor. It now has the BOM mark_ -- <http://forum.pspad.com/read.php?2,64085,64095> PSPad freeware editor http://www.pspad.com
