Well, if there is some agreement between T13 and SATA then it
would need to be public. Other than a few memos back and forth I
haven't seen any other documents.

But lets get real here... We all know that SATA will not be
released to T13 until a certain company (the one that likes to
create secret societies) knows that enough products are shipping
that changing the spec will not be of much value. Just watch
if/when someone attempts to propose a change to SATA at T13 -
there will probably be some discussion but we all know the T13
members that are also members of the secret society will not vote
to approve a change. Didn't you watch how SMART and several
other features were developed and turned over to T13?

The only changes that will be allowed will be minor technical
changes to cover SATA products that are shipping in volume that
fail to meet some minor detail of the SATA spec.

Sigh... Yes... We are probably stuck with yet another spec
(soon to be standard) that is half baked. Yet another standard
that will take years to sort out and fix up. Oh well... Such is
life these days. In the mean time: Long live SATA! SCSI is
dead! FC is dead! SATA fixes every device interface problem
there ever was!

Oh yea... I forgot... 1394 also fixed every device interface
problem there ever was.

It is my understanding that, once SATA-1 becomes part of the
ATA/ATAPI-7 specification, it is totally under the control of T13
including the technical content. This is likely detailed in the
agreement between T13 and the SATA promoters. $
