Yes I, for one, like to know to whom I am speaking before I speak. Listing subscribers doesn't tell me who will read the fully public google archives and doesn't tell me who automagically receives copies from subscribers, but it's a start. But I am among the people who use the net as if the spammers were already suppressed by the police worldwide. For example, I hope to be reachable as [EMAIL PROTECTED] until I retire, and yet I have allowed that address to appear on public web pages I do not own. By contrast, my spouse, living at the other extreme, receives email only from people who have registered their From addresses via some more reliable form of communication, such as the telephone.
