I remember making a statement like this back about a year ago and getting my head bit off for not knowing what the heck I was talking about (both by some forum folks and the people I worked for at the time). Everyone kept telling me it was 100% transparent to the BIOS and drivers. I am looking through Rev 7 ATAPI ID Device data and I don't see anything that indicates the device is SATA. I though we added something for that back in June 2002 meetings? Maybe we should have if we didn't. I see some words reserved for SATA devices (79:76), but nothing that indicates, to say a driver maybe, that the device is SATA. Am I missing something or was it not added? I would say the first thing the committee needs to do is if the above statement is true, is to add a bit indicating device type (PATA/SATA). That suddenly seems very reasonable considering.
