We know we can reject as stuck the eight bits 7..0 when they leave 7:3 BSY:DRQ lo via read-modify-write of x1F4 Cylinder Low etc. Whether we can reject as stuck the eight bits xF..8 or not more often than we therefore inadvertently (and unacceptably) reject a creatively designed device (e.g. that sets some bits defined after ATA/PI 5 or 6 or 7) ... that I don't yet know.
