I also noticed this. Until ATA-7 the offline data collection status byte
always had identical entries with bit 7 either on off.  This was the first
value that broke this pattern.

I've never seen it defined in any of the ATA specs or SFF documents. I've
seen bit 7 set on both IBM and Maxtor drives - I'd always assumed that it
was there for historical reasons.
