We should definitely add this to the agenda for the December meeting.

Subject: [t13] Clarification on Reset Signature

This message is from the T13 list server.

Good morning,

After speaking with Dan Colegrove yesterday, we agreed that I
would post a request for a clarification (in the spec) as to exactly
what the ATA reset signature should be.

This stems from the spec indicating the signature should be
1,1,0,0,0. However, in other locations in the spec the dev/head register
is marked as having bits 5 and 7 as obsolete. The inference there is to
ignore those bits - and, as Dan pointed out, even in the signature.

We had assumed otherwise and were failing to recognize a 2.5
inch drive that reported 1,1,0,0,A0 as its signature - which I am told
is acceptable.

So, I'm wondering if others are confused by this as well, and if
it would be possible to get the spec to clarify this (and, while that's
in progress, if I could get a note from the committee for my boss <g>)

        Thanks!

        josef Zeevi
