In ATA/ATAPI-7 the description of the Device register Clause "5.6.5 Field/bit description" shows bits 7 and 5 as "obsolete" with this additional note: "NOTE - Some hosts set these bits to one. Devices shall ignore these bits."
I guess the complaint is that the note fails to also say that some devices have these bits set to one (even after the host thinks it has written 0 to these bits).
But the bits are (and have been) "obsolete" for years and host side software should be treating them as such (that is host side software should be ignoring them).
