PIO modes 5 & 6 were added to the CF Specification as host system
designers were asking for faster PIO mode transfer rates. Current
technology allows for the faster timing that is required. Currently the
CFA does not intend to bring a proposal for PIO modes 5 & 6 to the T13
committee.

The CF Specification does include UDMA 33 & 66.

T13 has no plan to add PIO modes 5 and 6 to ATA8.

This was discussed during the last year, and the group saw no need to
add
it.
If, on the other hand, the CFA wants to bring a proposal to T13, we
would
look at it.

Please also remember that CFA does not have UDMA, and is based on
ATA/ATAPI-5.

Thank You !!!

I've recently downloaded a document for a Compact Flash card that shows
operation in PIO mode 5 (20MB/sec) and mode 6 (25MB/sec). Is there a
proposal to increase the PIO transfer rates for the IDE interface? Was
there a proposal at one time? Am I a victim of marketing? :-)

Thanks,
