As I stated in the telecon call, the draft with those changes will be
available by the 21st of November. Descriptions of the feature set
and IDENTIFY words are in the ATA8-ACS document. My changes are soley
to the ATA8-APT document describing the parallel interface. I suggest
you read the latest rev of ATA8-ACS.

Doesn't removing the feature require updating of the IDENTIFY words (in ACS) and the protocol diagrams (in APT) and any other document that has reference or description of the feature?

I believe I already noted to
Curtis that the IDENTIFY words were now wrong and he was going to fix
in the next rev.

I just checked the IDENTIFY word 75 description in ATA/ATAPI-4, -5, -6 and -7. The description in ATA/ATAPI-4 is not complete but this was corrected in ATA/ATAPI-5. ATA/ATAPI-5, -6 and -7 have the correct definition for IDENTIFY word 75.

I don't have Curtis original message about this so I'm not sure what he thinks is incorrect... Curtis, what is incorrect?

We have a joint T13 / T10 meeting in January in Phoenix to go over
all of the packet material to ensure that it is accurate and correct
with reality.

Are you finally going to make the IO and CD bits obsolete?

There are discussions ongoing about allowing "NCQ" like functionality
for packet devices.

Addition of NCQ for ATAPI devices requires only the addition of a 'NCQ' bit in the Features register as input to the PACKET command. This doesn't sound like a big deal to me. Unless there is something hidden in the SATA command protocols that prohibits ATAPI NCQ (and if so, how did that happen?).
