Ian,
here is further detail on what I did.
1) In PCB I changed the reference designators manually to the sequence
desired.
2) I changed the nets on each pin on the connector to follow the change
in reference designators. Nets were originally correct for the reference
designator, but reference designators were misplaced originally. To change
the net I edited the conductor pin of the connector (2 pin connectors) and
selected the correct net for the pin connection.
3) After a while, I went back into schematic and manually edited the
two reference designators in the schematic to match the new PCB arrangement.
Seems that all of this comes about because of 'someone's' statement
telling me I was wrong when I told someone else that there was an method by
which Protel matched symbols and parts beyond reference designators. I took
that person at their word because they are quite knowledgeable, possibly I
misunderstood their inference as it seems I commonly do. Well out of this I
have found that there is a scheme for matching components as I had thought
once before. I will have to amend my practices according.
From the time I asked my original question, I knew that I could fix
this problem one way or another. You and Abd ul-Rahman have supplied some
good feedback and I will be amending my practices accordingly and I know
more then I did at that point. Thanks Ian.
