Sorry Brad, no tricks this time :(
I have been sitting here playing around with different settings trying to
re-produce what you are seeing, but I cannot find the cause for nothin! I
even tried switching to the Dvorak keyboard you talk about... no
difference... my hotkeys are still immediate.
Do you notice any sort of key delays in any other programs?
Any programs that might be checking the keys before they make it to the
programs? Windows Accessibility options?
Any special drivers for your keyboard?
Anyone spying on your keystrokes? hehe
Biggest problem I have is that I don't have an NT system I can test this on
:(
Anyway, while we are here... here are a couple things that will help with
other types of delays in Protel(and also other programs in Windows)... Most
of you probably already know about this stuff... but it seemed an
appropriate place to bring it up.
(I think this is the same in NT, but I am not positive... any registry
editing is always done at your own risk!)
In your Registry under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
You can add a string value named MenuShowDelay and enter a value into it.
If you enter the value 0 then all of your menu's will show up immediately
when you hover your mouse over them. Add this string, then re-boot your
machine and then access the start menu to see the difference.
------
In your mouse settings you can alter the double-click speed and this will
effect how some operations happen inside Protel, mainly regarding setting
the focus on items when you 'tap-click'. eg. Tap click a track in PCB and
it will show the handles(set the focus), Tap click a handle and it will drag
that handle.
If your Double-click speed is set to slow, then it will take more time for
the focus to be set on an item, as it has to wait long enough to be sure you
do not want to double-click
If your Dbl-Click speed is set to fast then it will set the focus faster...
if it is set REAL fast then it can sometimes be difficult to set the focus
at all, because it has little time to determine if you are trying to pick
the object up(click and hold) or set the focus(tap-click)
-----
Brad, have you modified/customized your menu's at all? I don't think this
would slow it down, but it might be worth looking at.
I am also assuming this only happens in PCB and not Schematic? is this
right?
I don't know that I can help but I am definitely curious as to why you are
seeing so much of a delay.
