I'll let someone else respond about the apparent autorouter idle, except to 
note that it may be crunching data in the background. With a large board, 
it can sit this way for quite a time. To check to see if it is running, go 
to Auto Route/Setup and see if you get a message telling you that the 
Autorouter is already running.

As to the large database, unless the schematics and board were very large, 
the database has probably not been properly maintained. Maintenance 
consists of deleting unnecessary files, emptying the trash, and compacting 
the database. Compaction is available from the Client menu (the down-arrow 
in the upper left screen corner) as a utility, and an option exists to 
automatically compact databases on close. I leave this option on, even 
though the time of compaction can be a minor nuisance.
