Haha,,, you say you have worked on OSS for long and know about MS...
so much about dedication to what you do!

surely that sounds more like a page from the "microserfs' handbook"
take a look around there are millions of more open source hackers than
M$ engineers. Open source or non-open source your data depends on how
you manage it, not what kind of software you use. What do you think is
critical project then... Is MS word critical project... ? you have
choices there? notepad for instance?(AFAIK the most robust word
processor MS ever made) if whole internet can run on open source..
what can be more critical. If world's fastest super computers run
linux for critical operations... take windows... tell me it can run
these systems with the same reliability that linux provides,...

I don't get it... try making software as a independent vendor against
MS on close source... you are crushed... open source... all will
gain. you gain from support.. not by over selling a crappy product
(Yeah there are those ads too!)

I don't see how it can only be for geeks.. most linux users never see
what's in the source code... some of the poorest parts of the world
are using those solutions.. and they are better than commercial
vendors often.

Its about business strategy.. they have to do it because it's not the
war for desktop or laptops but a war for developers.. some of the best
developers would go for open source. That's what all these companies
are leveraging on. Google for instance...
