Dear Subir dai, I had posted a message at Fossnepal mailing lists inquiring support that Fossians can do for establishing a FOSS telecenter in Sankhuwasabha in a Lohorung Village. You must have remembered I had talked about it to you on chat few weeks ago as well.
I am working along with Bhim Sir (Linguist from TU) and Prof. Jens Allwood (Prof. in Linguistics from Gothenburg University) on a project where we are trying to preserve and vitalize Lohorung Language (one of the Rai Languages spoken in eastern Nepal). We are trying to establish a small telecenter at Lohorung village which is near Khadbari, the headquater. I suggested the team that we use the model that Fossnepal has been using to build a telecenter and asking help from FOSS volunteers. However we have a very limited budget in it. Probably we will have enough money to buy 1 computer only. As we talked earlier, is it possible that you talk with somebody from helpnepal who might be able to support us with one or two more computers. I think LTSP would further decrease the cost however I am not sure how effective will LTSP be for a media center. We need to record audio , video and pictures and upload them into remote website from the telecenter. Any suggestion or idea? It would also be helpful if you could get me connected to Roshendra dai or sb else from Help nepal. We are seeking help from you and Fossnepal on getting some manpower to install the lab. I have already got 2 cv of volunteers who are interested to help but if there is sb like Aksay, Shisir, Ujwal or Abhishek who can guide the volunteers it would be very useful for us. We are looking for your response on how Fossnepal can help the Lohorung Project.
