well, just in case if ur cd burner is the problem, try using unetbootin -
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/.
get a blank pendrive inserted. fire unetbootin and select the downloaded iso
and select the usb drive and click next. this should make a bootable ubuntu
pendrive.
