Hi everyone,
I had a wonderful meeting with Dr. Partha with tea and wifi
problem on a Suse KDE box. As requested a synopsis of the problem and
solution is as below (though the solution is so trivial, and I didn't do
anything geeky to solve it).

Problem:
The knetworkmanager on the Suse box was running and in the applet in the
notification area, the applet displayed wifi connections available.
Clicking on an item in the available network (wifi) list will start
authenticating to the SSID, but fails to connect and then disables the
applet after which the applet does not respond. Also that sometimes the
wireless gets disabled (as reported by Dr. Partha).

The Solution:
I tried to recreate the problem, and was able to duplicate it exactly as
reported. The wireless driver (ath9k) was working fine and it was able
to return a list of available SSIDs (as the output to "iwlist scan")
even if the network manager applet stopped responding. I tried using
iwconfig to connect to the SSID through commandline, but couldn't (my
bad as I forgot how to properly use iwconfig).
Then I opened a list of saved connections (through "Manage Connection"
on the applet context menu). From there I deleted the connection for the
SSID we were trying to connect to. After that I created a connection for
the SSID, and then tried to connect to it. Voila it worked. We restarted
the machine to confirm the connection, and it worked again.

I think there was a problem with the stale connection being saved in the
connection keyring. But I'm not quite sure what exactly was the problem
and what step solved it. Just happy that the problem was solved and Dr.
Partha was relived.
