Well i felt the same at first when i tried installing it. But the arch linux has a excellent documentation on installation and post-installation in their wiki. If you devote some time to go through it before trying to install it. It shouldn't be much of a hassle. Arch Linux provides you with minimalistic version of OS, which means that you would be logging in to console only from there it's up to you to configure it the way you want i used openbox as my desktop environment. In your case i highly doubt that the network interface was set to the local loopback mode (l0) you can easily set it down and enable Ethernet connection(e0) using ifconfig command (seek out it's manual for information about its usage). If you still struggle to install it you can shoot me an email with the error log.I'd be more than happy to help.
