Subject: translatewiki.net newsletter: 2013 is nearly there. Rally your
translation!
To: [email protected]

Hello, dear translatewiki.net user.

This is the
http://translatewiki.net<https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Main_Page>e-mail
newsletter for November 2012. It features news on MediaWiki
localisation and changes in supported products. To thank you, and to
further our goals, we're also starting a Translation Rally within
hours<https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Project:Rally-2012-12>.
Come on, join in!

Translation Rally: Contribute 500 translations and share in 1,000 Euro

The second Translation Rally of 2012 starts on December 21, 2012 22:00 UTC
and will run until December 31, 2012 00:00 UTC. This rally is
sponsored by Wikimedia
Nederland <http://wmnederland.nl>, the Dutch Wikimedia chapter. We are very
grateful for this continued support! Check out the project
page<https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Project:Rally-2012-12>for more
details.

The previous
rally<https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Project_talk:Rally-2012-08/translatewiki.net_August_2012_Translation_Rally_results>resulted
in nearly 66,000 new translations by 188 participants. I'm sure we
can do even better this time. 100,000 is still the magic number :).

Product support and staff

This time things in this section are pretty exiting, so we hope that you
have read up to here!

All of translatewiki.net's configuration is now available in a Git
repository<https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/gitweb?p=translatewiki.git;a=tree>,
so you can contribute there too if you like. No pressure, just possible.

Lots of development to improve the user experience for translators is
ongoing on the translation user interface redesign project conducted by the
Wikimedia Foundation Language Engineering team. A new message list and a
redesigned translation editor are in alpha stage and interested users
can activate
them <https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&tux=1>. A
change to "tux=0" in the previous link, gets you back to using the old
interface. Watch out: Things probably don't work as expected yet. There's
no need to report bugs yet. We do not recommend that you use it for making
many translations yet.

Support for StatusNet was dropped following an
announcement<http://status.net/2012/12/18/upcoming-changes-in-the-status-net-service>
.

If you are a developer of a promising Free and Open Source Software product
and you are looking for a great community to localise your product, please
get in touch with us!

More detailed news can be found on our
News<https://translatewiki.net/wiki/News>page. Follow translatewiki
on Twitter <http://twitter.com/translatewiki> for the latest news. We
welcome feedback about this newsletter. Please let us know by sending a
reply to this mail. We will try to accommodate your wishes.

Finally, of our about 9,000 registered users, only 4,450 people are
registered as translator. If you are not a translator yet, please complete
the steps <https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:FirstSteps> that will get
you the status of translatewiki.net translator and allow you to be a
localisation hero!

The best wishes for 2013. May it be your best year ever!
