It is not open source, but a good editor is worth investing in (IMO, anyway). It is not terminal based, it is a GUI. And while it is in no way nearly as carpal tunnel inducing as emacs, it does use shortcut keys. Full customization of keys is possible. It does support external tools, but I'm not using that functionality yet so I can't really comment on it. -- Scott Robison
