Hi all,

I'm working on a project hosting site for the autonomo.us project [1].

Briefly, the autonomo.us project is trying to figure out and implement
what user freedom, in the Free Software Foundation / GNU Project / Libre
sense [2], means in the context of network services.

I recently researched a bunch of software to implement a project hosting
site (think sourceforge) in the most free network service-y way possible
[3], and so far Fossil SCM looks like the clear winner.

Currently I'm looking for feedback on a proposal for the next generation
of the service [4] and would be interested in any insights from /
comments on that document the Fossil SCM community.

I also have a few questions:

(a) Has the addition of a search function been considered in any greater
depth than the listing on the todo list [5]?

If we could get someone to hack on that, are there any design and
implementation guidelines, existing projects that could be integrated to
add this function, or anything else people would suggest?

(b) Have you guys considered moving to the AGPLv3 license [6]?

The project already uses GPL, which I'm hoping means the copyright
holders care about freedom issues (yay!).

Moving to AGPLv3 would stop someone from taking the code, embracing and
extending it, and then offering it as a web-only service and not sharing
their changes back with the community.

If there is any interest in moving to AGPLv3, the person who started
that license (Bradley Kuhn, bkuhn on #autonomo.us on freenode irc) and
the FSF license compliance engineer (Brett C Smith, bcs) are part of the
autonomo.us group, so I'm sure we could help make that process as smooth
as possible. :)
